On 30 January 2023, I arrived in Germany from Armenia; the flight took the whole night, and I saw the dawn break whilst on the train travelling from Frankfurt to Bremen. A year apart from my wife, a year of wandering in a country I had never been to before, a lost home. It was a cloudy morning; the fields were green, and the sun was slowly rising from the horizon, whilst in my head – after a sleepless night – there was both a sense of peace at finally being safe and a whirlwind of thoughts about how to carry on. I couldn’t sleep; the only thing that took my mind off things were the clouds, which ranged from storm clouds to a light white haze.
It was the feeling of pleasant morning hospitality with which Germany welcomed me; I still carry this feeling with me today – it warms and calms me, despite all the problems I face.

Gopal Muni
My name is Gopal Muni; I was born in 1992 in the Caucasus region of Russia.
I studied art aesthetics and philosophy from 2014 to 2015 and in 2017 with the artist and sculptor Akhilesh Kumar Rai in Varanasi, India
Since 2023, I have been a student (Fine Art, Diploma) at the University of the Arts Bremen in Prof. Stephan Baumkötter’s class.
I began my creative journey in 2014, and from then on, art became the meaning of my life. My works are created using expressionist techniques, influenced by various emotional states and personal experiences. The themes of my art range from landscapes, fleeting moments of mood, emotions evoked by real-life events, simple abstractions and portrait sketches, to political statements. I am always experimenting with various media, materials, formats and techniques; I never settle on just one thing – for me, painting methods and ways of expressing myself are endless.
For me, art is something like a personal diary, because the process of creating each painting, object or other work forces you to go through many thoughts, experiences and feelings in a short space of time, allowing you to rethink the way you view the world and perceive the things around you and within you.
