Description

100 x 120 x 4.5 cm. Acrylic on canvas 2025

The work depicts a composition that oscillates between abstraction and figuration, suggesting an inner landscape or an evocation of natural elements. The colour palette is earthy and subdued, dominated by shaded shades of grey, brown and blue, which create a subdued, introspective atmosphere.

In the centre of the composition, a vertical form in deep red immediately catches the eye, serving as a focal point and a contrasting element to the surrounding tones. This form, executed with swift and fluid brushstrokes, appears to emerge from a more nuanced and indeterminate context, like a kind of apparition or sudden manifestation.

The brushstrokes are visible and textured, revealing the artist’s gesture and creative process. The forms are intertwined and overlap, creating a sense of depth and movement. Elements reminiscent of branches or tree trunks stand out against the background, suggesting a natural, organic dimension.

Light appears to stream in from an undefined point, illuminating specific areas of the canvas and casting delicate shadows that help to define the forms and convey a sense of three-dimensionality.

. My work arises from a direct, physical engagement with the material. The gesture is central – impulsive, powerful, often spontaneous. Traces such as scratches, colour gradients, overlays and raw edges are deliberately left visible and form an integral part of the picture. The painting process is open-ended, process-oriented and follows no fixed plan. Decisions are made in the moment of movement. In the process, spaces emerge on the canvas or paper that have little to do with classical three-dimensionality. They are mental spaces between eruption and contemplation, between concentration and spontaneity. For me, imperfection is an essential part of the process – it embodies the truth of the process.

My painting

has now moved beyond the two-dimensional plane. I am increasingly working with objects and forms in space. In doing so, I apply painterly principles to other materials – colour becomes physical, movement becomes volume. This gives rise to sculptural works in which gesture, materiality and space come together in new ways.
