Polymorph: The Fool
Interactive light installation, mixed media on plastic, backlit, 2024
Chris’s work Polymorph: The Fool is part of his innovative series Polymorph, which creates an ever-changing visual experience through the use of tension-testing techniques for plastic and specially developed filters.
This interactive light installation depicts an abstract, multi-layered figure – the Fool – whose appearance changes depending on the viewing angle and the filter used. The form does not remain static, but oscillates between recognisable and diffuse structures, allowing the motif to appear in up to 360 variations.
The colour palette ranges from cool shades of blue and violet to vibrant yellows and greens, depending on the interaction with light and the filters used. The composition incorporates fragments of geometric shapes and flowing colour gradients, creating a playful, almost dance-like dynamism.
The work invites the viewer to shift their perspective and question the very moment of perception. The jester becomes a metaphor for changeability, ambiguity and a playful approach to reality and art.
