The painting depicts the deep red leaves of a tree whose branches hang over a body of water covered in light green duckweed. The sun is already low in the sky on this autumn afternoon, bathing the trees and the white house in the background in a golden-yellow light.
The painting was created en plein air in Schrevenpark, Kiel, and formed part of Janna Schnoor’s solo exhibition “Connected to the Sea” at the Freya-Frahm-Haus in Laboe.
The dimensions given refer to the painting without the frame. The frame measures approx. 44 x 34 x 4 cm. The shadow-joint frame was custom-made by the artist specifically for this painting and is crafted from high-quality solid wood.
Janna Schnoor
Janna Schnoor’s artistic interest lies in the precise and sensitive observation of her surroundings. Direct experience of the landscape is essential to her creative process. Her focus is on the coastal region of Schleswig-Holstein with its wide beaches, steep cliffs and small woods. Through the act of painting, she develops an intense connection with these places, gently exploring and understanding them. Her landscape paintings reflect the artist’s friendly familiarity with her surroundings. The landscape is not captured in a documentary style, but explored in terms of its atmospheric effect. Light plays a central role in this. The paintings glow from within, thereby conveying the transience and fragility of the moments captured.
