The process underlying these works takes place in the human brain: our minds are designed to complete seemingly incomplete perceptual images and fill in the gaps with familiar shapes. This is how, for example, we recognise faces or animals in the grain of trees or stones. The artistic rendering of such images, in turn, allows for new interpretations.

Leyla Jalili

Leyla Jalili is studying art at the University of Osnabrück. Her main area of work is oil and acrylic painting on large-format canvases. Stylistically, her delicate brushwork and focus on the interplay of light and shadow are particularly noteworthy. In her studio, the artist creates both naturalistic depictions and abstract works on canvas. She captures motifs for her paintings, as well as for her prints and drawings, through photographs and quick sketches that she takes whilst travelling or in her everyday life.
