The sculpture *Sumpfgestalt* depicts an upright humanoid figure whose body is enveloped in restlessly folded layers of fabric. The head and limbs are merely hinted at; the figure appears less as a clearly defined body than as a condensed presence emerging from the material itself.
The deep green colour and the glossy reflections on the surface are reminiscent of polished green marble. Light refracts on the irregular folds, creating a shifting interplay of sheen and shadow that lends the figure an effect that is at once heavy and fluid. This creates the impression of a being caught between mineral rigidity and organic movement – as if it had slowly emerged from a marshy, damp environment and frozen in the very moment of taking shape.
The sculpture was constructed from fabric saturated with glue and epoxy resin and modelled over a supporting structure of filament. The solid base made of service tree wood provides a warm, tranquil contrast and anchors the figure both physically and visually. Standing 43 cm tall, the work exudes a concentrated presence in which material, colour and form merge into an independent, enigmatic figure.

A certificate of authenticity is included; the work is inscribed with the title and signature on the base.
Dominik Ackermann
studied fine art as a master’s student in Christian Sery’s class at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. Prior to this, he graduated from the CHS Vocational College for Graphic Design in Karlsruhe and attended architecture-related further education courses at Dresden University of Technology.

We look around and see people walking past us, standing still, leaning against architectural objects, structures and buildings. These people are strangers to us; they are strangers and will always remain so. We do not speak to them, and they appear aloof and anonymous. No longer recognisable as individuals and having lost their humanity, they become intangible beings, part of an urban landscape. These biological, natural forms gradually merge with their surroundings, with objects and the surrounding architecture. Thus, distorted fragments of humanoid life forms from an urban world are reflected in Ackermann’s works. A dialogue emerges here between these figures and their inner relationship with the viewer.
