The animal motifs in my art represent the animal world around us, yet at the same time they often serve as symbols of emotions and memories.
When it comes to pigeons, I was fascinated by the apparent sameness of these many lookalikes, the colourfulness of their iridescent necks, their patterned plumage...
Now that I’ve started to engage with these birds, I see them everywhere I go. Despite evidence of a decline in their numbers, pigeons are predominantly perceived as a nuisance in human habitats. Over the course of millennia, they have gone from being domesticated animals to supposed vermin... These animals offer a window into humanity’s general relationship with nature. Yet pigeons are intelligent, loyal, peaceful creatures that stick together closely in flocks.
I have decided to devote some attention to these animals in my paintings.

“I portray my surroundings: the people in my life, my family, animals, nature – in short, the world I experience around me. Recently, I have been particularly preoccupied with bird and animal motifs, as well as allegorical questions of freedom and (co-)existence. The themes I explore are, on the one hand, personal, but are also intended to encourage viewers to reflect on their own relationship with nature and their fellow human beings. My artworks are excerpts and fragmentary snapshots. A scene I have experienced can become a monument
