What a complex feeling it is to enter a room and sense that something has taken place, that people were there before me. It’s as if you could grasp the past, fantasise about what was. Doesn’t that happen to us all the time? With this work, I’ve tried to capture what I perceived when I first set foot in my Erasmus university in Barcelona. It was before the start of term and the building was completely empty, almost eerily deserted. Yet I could sense all the people who had passed through those doors before me – their hopes, fears, ideas and thoughts.
