This image is a two-colour cyanotype.
The acid-free watercolour paper was exposed in two stages.
In the first stage, I bleached the cyanotype after exposure, creating a warm beige tone for the bird. In the second stage, I created the background in the characteristic Prussian/Berlin blue. The whisk is formed by the cut-out and is therefore the natural white of the paper.
The print is framed in a light-coloured wooden frame (wood type: pine).
This motif was produced in an edition of 20 and is dispatched with a signature on the reverse, an edition number and a certificate of authenticity.
Each cyanotype varies slightly due to the light, the coating and the quality of the paper,
the water in which it is bathed, and other environmental factors.
No two prints are completely identical.
This gives each cyanotype its own unique character.
Anna Hoffmann
under Professor Urs Lüthi
at the Kassel Art Academy.
She has always been interested in the poetic, mythological
aspects of everyday life and in the perception and staging
of environments. She is therefore not tied to any particular medium and
explores any kind of material she considers useful.
In particular, she is currently fascinated by cyanotype
with its (al)chemical attributes.
Cyanotype is a fascinating fine-art printing process:
After applying a light-sensitive solution to watercolour paper,
they are exposed using contact negatives.
This produces unique images in fascinating shades of blue,
some of which Anna Hoffmann subsequently transforms into other shades by toning
using plant essences.
