Information about myself and my work
My name is Luzie Pheiffer, I am 30 years old and completed my Master’s degree, specialising in Art, at the University of Siegen at the end of March 2024.
My artistic work combines the fields of photography, printmaking and painting. My analogue photographs serve as a point of reference for composing the images and as a starting point for further processing the works through printmaking and painting techniques using acrylic and lacquer paints. The works undergo a multi-layered process and are increasingly transformed, deformed, altered, abstracted and censored: Prints from the darkroom can be scanned and digitally altered; these are printed out and then produced as unique pieces using the monolithography process, during which unpredictable events often occur, which in turn have great significance for the subsequent painterly treatment. This ‘coincidence’ gives rise to supposed ‘errors’, which, for example, are pictorially staged/ emphasised/ multiplied/…
The subjects of my photographs are intuitive moments from everyday life and my surroundings, which at first glance appear rather mundane. Through the camera’s limited frame and, ultimately, the limited image area of the photograph, a subjective value is attributed to them. Another motif is the interplay of light and shadow, which is characterised in particular by strong contrast and forms a network of abstract shapes, which are ultimately taken up and utilised individually on a painterly level.
