The work will be shipped stretched onto a stretcher frame – including a certificate of authenticity and a signature on the reverse.
A lung, painted to look like liquid metal, hovers against a comic-book-style sky with drawn clouds. The work combines an everyday, almost banal visual vocabulary (clouds as if from a cartoon) with a hyper-realistic-looking, organic object that has been removed from its usual context and transformed into gleaming, reflective surfaces. I am interested in this interplay between the familiar and the alienated – between pop aesthetics and surreal materiality. A fascination with flowing, reflective liquids and surfaces runs through my current artistic practice.
