It was me once, too

In this work, I draw upon an older painting from my own artistic past and re-engage with it from my current artistic perspective. The original motif is not simply reworked, but transformed into a new state through friction, abrasion and alteration.
I have partially rubbed away the surface of the painting. As a result, the painting itself becomes a vessel of time: layers peel away, traces remain, and the original image now appears only in fragments. What interests me here is how a former self can be preserved in my current work – not as an unaltered memory, but as something that, through the course of events, changes, is lost and, at the same time, reforms itself.
The title ‘Auch mal ich gewesen’ refers to this relationship with my own past self. The figure depicted becomes a kind of self-portrait of an earlier painterly stance, to which I now feel both connected and estranged.
Delivery:
The work is shipped stretched on a stretcher frame – including a certificate of authenticity and a signature on the reverse.
