Come on over, everyone – here it is
200x195, varnish and oil on canvas, 2026
In this work, I explore the feeling of a place that seems both inhabited and abandoned. At the centre stands a simple wooden dwelling, surrounded by bare trees, chairs and an almost overgrown setting. The architecture is reminiscent of a makeshift refuge – something that might once have offered shelter and a sense of everyday life, but is now enveloped in a peculiar silence.
The figures and objects do not appear definitively inhabited or abandoned. Clothes hang in the room, chairs stand empty, and body-like forms emerge amongst the trees. This creates an atmosphere in which memory and the present overlap. I am interested in the moment when a familiar place loses its clarity and becomes an inner image.
The landscape is not intended as a lifelike environment. Through the violet, bluish and reddish colour palettes, the place shifts into a dreamlike realm. Nature encroaches upon the architecture and seems to be slowly reclaiming it. The place thus becomes an in-between space – between home and the unfamiliar, presence and absence, memory and oblivion.
