Caren Weeks
exploration of the figurative tradition and the freedom of painterly processes.
At the heart of her work lies the tension between figuration and abstraction. Female figures frequently appear as silent protagonists – sometimes clearly present, sometimes fragmentary or embedded in open spaces of colour. They become vessels for moods, memories and inner narratives.
Weeks’ works open up poetic pictorial spaces that deliberately elude a single, unambiguous interpretation. Instead, they invite the viewer to develop their own associations and stories.
The artist draws inspiration from the people around her, from symbolic motifs, the theatre, fairy tales and dream worlds. From these impulses emerges a rich, atmospheric visual language in which reality and imagination overlap.
A distinctive colour palette and the balance between draughtsmanlike precision and painterly freedom characterise her works.
Caren Weeks works with oil, acrylic and charcoal on canvas.
"“For me, painting is a space of freedom. Here I can leave behind the expectations and fixed rules of reason and logic. The result is paintings that do not lay everything out in fixed terms, but rather open up spaces for moods, questions and the stories that end differently in the mind of every viewer.”
