Canvas, textured paste, (100%) cotton, adhesive, acrylic paint
Technique:
The floral shape was first modelled using textured paste, creating a relief-like surface. The background was painted with acrylic paint. Crocheted cotton was then glued onto the moulded structure. The canvas itself is 1.5 cm wide. Added to this is approximately 1.5 cm of the modelling.
The work is part of a new series featuring crocheted cotton. This sculpture depicts an abstract flower in a vibrant shade of pink.

Bloom: Blossoms embody the tension between delicacy and strength, between transience and expression. Their variety of forms, their lines and their rhythm provide a starting point for experimenting with reduction, movement and materiality.
The focus is on reduced line work in the form of line art, the deliberate subversion of hyperrealistic depictions, and the interplay of movement and dynamism. Experimenting with different materials gives rise to varied interpretations of floral motifs.
