Maria Claudia Wagner

Maria Claudia Wagner has been devoting herself intensively to painting since 2018, with a particular focus on serial work. She draws on traditional oil painting techniques to address contemporary social issues. Maria’s paintings are characterised by a cropped composition, a haptic/tactile application of paint, and a vibrancy of colour achieved through the layering of numerous oil layers. Maria sees herself as part of the tradition of the ‘Slow Painters’ (her works develop slowly and are intended to have a lasting impact) and describes her approach as ‘Artistic Research’ – the results of this aesthetic research are reflected in her paintings. Maria is currently studying at the HGB Leipzig, works as an artistic assistant at the Baumwollspinnerei in Leipzig and runs her own studio at the Westwerk in Leipzig.
