‘torn’
Media/Technique: Acrylic, oil and charcoal on canvas, stretched onto a wooden frame in a custom-designed and built artist’s board frame tailored to the work.

‘torn’ is part of a three-part series exploring family relationships and various emotional states. My primary focus here was on a quiet yet intense moment of inner turmoil. The child with the empty plate appears at once exhausted, expectant and withdrawn. It was important to me that this tension is visible not only in the subject matter, but also in the surface itself: parts of the painting were cut away, the acrylic layer peeled off and reincorporated. As a result, the surface conveys the vulnerability of the image whilst simultaneously demonstrating resilience. The custom-built wooden frame made of stained softwood is deliberately part of the work and reinforces its physical presence.
In my works, I use exclusively highly pigmented artists’ paints, which possess high luminosity and lightfastness. For each work, I design and build an artist’s frame myself, which, through a combination of craftsmanship and conceptual care, aims to create a cohesive overall effect.

The work is shipped stretched onto a stretcher frame and an artist’s board frame – including a certificate of authenticity, the corresponding catalogue number and signature on the front.

Alexej Eisner
In his work, nostalgic, (post-)Soviet narratives are embedded within biographical elements of everyday life. In doing so, personal and collective memories of the traumas of Russian-German history are interwoven. Eisner presents figurative elements which, through expressive gestures, scraped surfaces and vivid colour schemes within a single composition, create alternating moments of clarity and decay, conveying a sense of authenticity and raw emotion.
