This work was inspired by the feeling of looking up at the night sky, seeing the full moon and being suddenly overcome by the urge to sing. And, of course, my enduring fascination with space and our moon – a truly captivating subject.

Tom Peter

My art is about capturing the fantastical on canvas. Painting landscapes that could never exist in this world. Breathing life into places that exist only in dreams or in one’s own mythology. Images in which we once found ourselves as children, but which we have forgotten as adults.

My influences can be found in the literature of my childhood, as well as in science fiction and mythological tales. I am also inspired by the painters of the Romantic and Symbolist movements.

In my work, I use acrylics and oils, as well as a range of painting styles, from the more detailed to impasto. I enjoy working on wood or canvas panels, as they provide a stable surface.

Tom Peter is studying at HAW Hamburg in Christian Hahn’s painting course.
