A muddy path leads the viewer into a forest thick with snow. Silence reigns, save for the crunch of snow beneath one’s feet. The snow lends the forest a dense atmosphere.
Using flat colours and increasingly thick layers of paint, culminating in impasto in the foreground, this depicts the forest of my childhood, back when it used to snow heavily at Christmas.

My influences can be found in the literature of my childhood, as well as in science fiction and mythological tales. I am also inspired by the painters of the Romantic and Symbolist movements.
In my work, I use acrylics and oils, as well as a range of painting styles, from the more detailed to impasto. I enjoy working on wood or canvas panels, as they provide a stable surface.
Tom Peter is studying at HAW Hamburg in Christian Hahn’s painting course.
