Skins No. 01 is the first ‘skin’ painting in the ‘Skin’ series, which I began in 2021. The entire series is characterised by my typical and much-loved ‘dark and colourful’ palette, which defines my style. To create the motifs, I photograph or film my own body or that of others. By zooming in heavily, the original subject becomes barely recognisable, whilst the physicality of the skin is emphasised. I painted the ‘Skins’ on nettle fabric, and they are intended for an unstretched installation. The paint gives the fabric a leather-like texture, allowing the paintings to be mounted on the wall like flaps of skin, thereby bringing out their full effect.
In late 2022/early 2023, the ‘Skins’ were exhibited as part of the exhibition “Materialsache – What about painting?!” at Space Muthesius. (From left to right in the exhibition photo: Skins No. 03, 01, 02)
Lisa Sophie Langhans
I’m an art student from Kiel, though I actually grew up in idyllic Lübeck, and have been studying art to become a teacher in the interdisciplinary class taught by Prof. Dr Almut Linde at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts since October 2020. I’ve been painting with my favourite medium – oil paint – since I was 14. Starting out with portrait painting, over the years I’ve developed the distinctive colour palette that characterises my paintings; the magic that can arise between colours when used correctly continues to fascinate me to this day and motivates me to keep going.
I have already had the opportunity to exhibit my work in a number of exhibitions and am extremely grateful for any further opportunities :)
